About our products

More than skin deep

So why are our products so special? Innovative design, inspired colour palettes and the finest soft nappa leathers are crucial to our success. Hold one of our purses, wallets or bags in your hands and you know it’s something you want to live with. But the beauty of our products really is more than skin deep.

During the production process we demand the very best from everyone – and everything – involved. But what do we mean by ‘everything’? Well, for a start, all leather is certainly not created equal and we’re obsessive about creating the very best.

Our ‘crusts’ or hides come from Japan, where we know we’re more confident of a better selection and quality, free of the physical damage done by, for example, ticks or barbed wire. The hides are then tanned using German chemicals, renowned throughout the industry as being of the highest quality.

When it comes to dyeing, just think back 20 or even 10 years. Leather products were a conservative bunch, usually appearing in black, brown, tan and, if you were lucky, burgundy. Because there were just four colours, manufacturers were able to dye from 50 up to 100 skins at a time.

Today at Mywalit we currently work with 21 colours of leather. That’s more colours, but fewer skins in each. And so we work with a progressive tannery, which operates a larger number of smaller drums. It means we dye just five to 10 skins together, allowing us to monitor tanning quality and colour consistency with much more precision.

Once the skins are tanned and dyed, we invest time and effort to create the highest quality products. The production process creates various sections of leather that are then carefully assembled during the construction of the product. A perfect ‘edge’ is crucial to this. Our ‘skiving’ process shaves each leather section to deliver a fine, clean edge that is then folded and double stitched, rather than single stitched.

The people we work with are friends rather than suppliers. Our longest supplier relationship started 27 years ago and we’ve known some individuals in that company for over 20 years. That level of personal knowledge and understanding is fundamental to the way we work and to achieving the very best results together.

PRODUCT'S MAINTENANCE, OUR ADVICE FOR KEEPING YOUR "WALIT" AT ITS BEST.

We are proud of how hardy our leather is considering it's softness. Although, to improve the protective layer on the leather, it is suggested to lightly spray the item with silicone spray (available in most shoe shops), this will create an extra protective coat. A beeswax cream will also make it softer, but might also make it slightly darker. The biggest problem are ink or biro stains that penetrate the leather and won't come out.
